Originally formed by Mike Donovan, Sic Alps is now the duo of Donovan and Matt Hartman and their primitive take on assorted freakbeat and garage rock modes is a fucking doozy. A Long Way Around To A Shortcut is a necessary comp that bundles alla their diverse and tough-to-score vinyl/analog recordings in the one place, running from destroyed piano/brass breakdowns to miniature psychedelic GBV-style rock-brut gems, fully punked re-thinks of 13th Floor Elevators riff damage and a cool DIY gloss on good-time rock 'n' roll that would join the dots between Royal Trux and primo teenage psych. So good to hear a contemporary group that has fully internalised post-punk lessons in fidelity, freedom and form destruction but who still know how to fucking rock the bandstand. All tracks are remastered and the CD comes with a bonus track. Totally excellent and very highly recommended.
